Quick answer

A lawn care estimate shows your business name and contact details, the customer and property address, an estimate number, the date and a valid-until date. It lists each service, such as mowing, aeration, overseeding or leaf removal, with the lawn size, the number of visits and the price per visit or per job, plus materials like seed or mulch. Add options, sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit and a signature block.

Lawn care estimates, part by part

Lawn care customers want to know three things: what you'll do, how often and what it costs. A clear estimate answers all three on one page, and it's what a property manager compares when they collect lawn care bids from several companies.

Start with your business name and contact details, and a license or registration line if your state requires one for applying fertilizer or pesticides. The FTC says a written estimate should describe the work, the materials, the completion date and the price. Then the customer's name, property address, date and estimate number.

Write down the lawn size, by square foot or acre, and the size of any beds you'll maintain. Size drives most of the price, and writing it down stops arguments later if the customer remembers a smaller yard.

Then list each service on its own line: mow, trim and blow; edging; aeration; overseeding; fertilizer; leaf removal; spring cleanup; mulching. For services you repeat, write the number of visits and the price per visit. For one-off jobs, a job price. Add materials such as seed, fertilizer or mulch, by quantity.

Lawn care suits options: a basic mow-only service, a standard service with edging and blowing, and a full service with fertilizer and cleanups, each priced in full, with your recommendation marked.

Below the lines: sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, a valid-until date and what is not included, such as hauling away large branches. End with a signature block.

Set it up once, then reuse it

  • Download the PDF, Word or Excel version and save a master with your business details and your usual services.
  • At the property, measure the lawn and beds, then fill in the customer, address, date, estimate number and valid-until date.
  • List each service with visits and price, then materials.
  • Build basic, standard and full-service options.
  • Add tax and any deposit, then send it and ask the customer to sign.

Lawn care jobs this template fits

Lawn care companies use this estimate for a spring cleanup, aeration and overseeding, a sod install, leaf removal and mulching, and for a season of mowing visits. It also works as a commercial lawn care bid for an HOA or property manager, with each service and visit priced on its own line.

Questions

What should a lawn care estimate include?

Your business details, the customer and property address, an estimate number and date, the lawn size, each service on its own line, the number of visits and price per visit, materials, options if relevant, sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, a valid-until date and a signature block.

Is a lawn care estimate the same as a bid?

People use the words loosely. A bid is usually a price submitted against other lawn care companies, often for commercial properties. The layout is the same; list each service and visit so your bid can be compared line by line.

Should I price lawn mowing per visit or per season?

Either works. Per visit is easy for the customer to understand; a season price needs the number of visits written on the estimate. Whichever you use, put the unit in the line name, such as "Mow, trim and blow (per visit)".

Should I ask for a deposit on a lawn care estimate?

That is your call. It can make sense on one-off jobs like sod installs or big cleanups where you buy materials first. If you take one, put the amount on the estimate. Some states limit how much a contractor can ask for as a down payment, so check your state's rules before you set one.

Can my customer sign the lawn care estimate online?

With the downloaded file, they sign on paper or send back a signed scan. If you make the estimate in the Quoza lawn care estimate maker, the customer gets a link, reads it on their phone and signs online.

Can I download the template in Word or Excel?

Yes. The lawn care estimate template comes as a PDF, a Word file and an Excel sheet, all free and with no email required.
