Fence invoices, part by part
A new fence is easy to check: the customer can walk the line and count the gates. An invoice that follows the estimate line by line, with the real lengths filled in, matches what they see in the yard and gets paid without questions.
Start with the invoice number and date, then your business name, contact details and license number. The FTC tells homeowners to look for a contractor's name, address, phone and license number on their paperwork. Add the customer's name, the property address and the estimate number this invoice bills.
List the linear feet installed, with height and material, at the price per foot from the estimate. If the run came out longer or shorter than measured, bill what you installed and add a short note. Then posts, each gate with its hardware, and removal and haul-away of the old fence.
If the customer asked for more once you were there, such as an extra gate or a section along the side yard, give it its own line marked as approved extra work. Rock you had to dig through, if your estimate said you'd charge for it, goes on its own line too.
Below the lines: sales tax where the job is taxable, the total, any deposit received, the balance due, the due date and how to pay.
It is worth noting the date the fence was finished and any workmanship warranty you offered on the estimate. The invoice is the paper the customer keeps.
Send it the same day the fence is finished.
