Quick answer
A tree service estimate shows your business name, contact details and license or insurance line, the customer and property address, an estimate number, the date and a valid-until date. It describes each tree by species, size and location, the work, such as removal, trimming or stump grinding, the cleanup and haul-away, and prices each on its own line. Add options, sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, exclusions and a signature block.

Tree service estimates, part by part
When a homeowner calls about a tree, they often have no idea what the job involves. Is the stump included? Will you haul the wood away? What about the fence underneath? A clear estimate answers those questions before they become arguments, and it shows you have planned the job safely.
Start with your business name, contact details, and a license or insurance line if you carry one or your state requires it. The FTC tells homeowners to look for a contractor's license number and says a written estimate should describe the work, the materials, the completion date and the price. Then the customer's name, property address, date and estimate number.
Describe each tree so there's no doubt which one you mean: "Silver maple, about 60 ft, back left corner, over the garage." Then the work for that tree: full removal, trimming, crown thinning or deadwooding. If access is tight or you need a crane or bucket truck, say so on the line.
Price stump grinding separately, and say how deep you'll grind. Then cleanup: haul everything away, or cut the wood to length and leave it on site. Customers have strong views on this, so write it down.
Tree work suits options: trimming against removal, or removal with and without stump grinding, each priced in full, with your recommendation marked.
Below the lines: sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, a valid-until date and what is not included, such as repairing lawn ruts or replanting. End with a signature block.

Questions
What should a tree removal estimate include?
Your business details and license or insurance line, the customer and property address, an estimate number and date, each tree by species, size and location, the work, stump grinding, cleanup and haul-away, options if relevant, sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, a valid-until date, exclusions and a signature block.
Should stump grinding be a separate line?
Yes. Many customers assume removal includes the stump; many tree services price it separately. A separate line, or an option with and without grinding, avoids that surprise.
Is a tree service estimate the same as a quote?
People use them loosely. An estimate is usually your expected price, a quote a firmer price for a defined job. Whatever you call it, describe each tree and the work so the customer can compare you with other tree services like for like.
Should I ask for a deposit on a tree service estimate?
That is your call. It can make sense for big removals that need a crane or a crew booked ahead. If you take one, put the amount on the estimate. Some states limit how much a contractor can ask for as a down payment, so check your state's rules before you set one.
Can my customer sign the tree service estimate online?
With the downloaded file, they sign on paper or send back a signed scan. If you make the estimate in the Quoza tree service estimate maker, the customer gets a link, reads it on their phone and signs online.
Can I download the template in Word or Excel?
Yes. The tree service estimate template comes as a PDF, a Word file and an Excel sheet, all free and with no email required.
