Add options where the customer has a choice, sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, what is not included and a signature block.

Drywall estimates, part by part
Drywall bids are easy to compare badly. One contractor quotes "hang and finish" for the whole basement, another breaks out board, labor and finish level, and the customer has no idea which one is cheaper for the same result. A line-by-line estimate makes your price easy to understand and easy to say yes to.
Put your business name, contact details and license number at the top. The FTC tells homeowners to look for a contractor's license number and says a written estimate should describe the work, the materials, the completion date and the price. Then the customer's name, job address, date and estimate number.
Describe the rooms or areas: "Basement family room and hallway, walls and ceiling." Then list what is not included, such as framing repairs, insulation or painting after the finish coat.
Price the board by type and quantity, such as standard, moisture-resistant or fire-rated, by the sheet or by the square foot. Then hanging, taping and finishing with the finish level named, so the customer knows whether walls will be ready for flat paint or for texture. Give texture, patching and repairs their own lines.
Where the customer has a real choice, show options: a smooth finish against a knockdown texture, or patching against replacing a damaged wall, each priced in full with your recommendation marked.
Below the lines: sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, a valid-until date and a note on how changes are priced, for example if you find water damage behind old board. End with a signature block.

Drywall jobs this template fits
Drywall contractors use this estimate for basement finishes, new walls and ceilings in remodels and additions, patch and repair jobs after plumbing or electrical work, ceiling texture changes and water damage repairs. It also works as a drywall bid sheet for a general contractor, with each area priced on its own line.
When the work is done, bill it with the contractor invoice template. For whole remodels, the construction estimate template covers every trade on one page.
Download it free
Download the drywall estimate template as a PDF, Word file or Excel sheet, free and without giving an email address. Keep a master copy with your usual board types and finish levels already listed, so each new bid only needs quantities and prices.
For small patch-and-paint jobs, the handyman estimate maker lets you fill in an estimate online, see what your customer gets and send it for them to sign.

Questions
What should a drywall estimate include?
Your business details and license number, the customer and job address, an estimate number and date, the rooms or areas, board type and quantity, hanging, taping and finish level, texture and repairs, options if relevant, sales tax where it applies, the total, any deposit, a valid-until date, exclusions and a signature block.
Should I price drywall by the sheet or by the square foot?
Use whichever you priced the job by, and say so in the line name, such as "Hang 1/2-inch board, walls (per sheet)". A clear unit lets the customer check the quantity and compare bids fairly.
Is an estimate the same as a quote or a bid?
People use the words loosely. An estimate is usually your expected price, a quote a firmer price for a defined job, and a bid a price submitted against other drywall contractors. Whatever the label, say exactly what the price includes.
Should I ask for a deposit on a drywall estimate?
That is your call. It can make sense when you buy board and mud before the job. If you take one, put the amount and how to pay it on the estimate. Some states limit how much a contractor can ask for as a down payment, so check your state's rules before you set one.
Can I download the template in Word or Excel?
Yes. The drywall estimate template comes as a PDF, a Word file and an Excel sheet. All three are free, with no email required.
