Filling it in for a painting job

  • Add your business and your customer. Type your business name, then the customer's name, their cell or email, and the job address.
  • List the job line by line at your own prices. One line per room or surface: "Living room, walls and ceiling, two coats", "Hallway walls", "Interior doors and trim, semi-gloss", "Prep, patch and caulk", "Paint and supplies". Not sure of one? Leave it empty: it shows Needs price and can't go out at zero.
  • Tap Send to customer and sign up. Nothing to type again. Your customer gets the estimate as a link, signs online and pays any deposit straight to you.

The example painting lines are marked Sample price. Keep them or set your own before anything is sent.

What your customer sees

The preview shows what your customer gets. Download PDF gives you a printable copy. On their phone they see your business name, each room or surface with your price, the tax line, the total, and a deposit if you turned one on. Then a place to sign.

Because each room has its own price, a customer can see what it would cost to leave the guest room for next year, rather than haggling over one lump sum.

The deposit switch is off until you turn it on. It can help when you buy paint for a big job or book a crew for several days. You choose how customers pay you after you sign up.

Tips for painting pricing

  • Make prep visible. Patching, sanding, caulking and priming take the hours. A prep line explains why your price is higher than a quick roll-over.
  • Say how many coats. "Two coats" in the line name answers the question before it's asked.
  • Name the paint. Brand or grade and sheen per surface help the customer compare bids fairly.
  • Say what is not included. Moving heavy furniture, inside closets, or ceilings, if you're not doing them.
  • Send it from the walkthrough. The customer can sign while the colors are still on their mind.

Questions

Is the painting estimate maker free?

Yes. Fill in a painting estimate and download it as a PDF without signing up or giving an email. To send it to a customer for signature, you create an account at that step. No card is needed to start.

Should I price by the room or by the hour?

Either works. For a room price, enter quantity 1 and your price, with the room in the line name. For hourly work, enter the hours as the quantity and your rate as the price, and put "(estimated hours)" in the line name.

Should paint be a separate line?

It helps. A line for paint, with the brand or grade in the name, shows the customer what they are getting and makes it easy to switch grades if they ask.

Can my customer sign the painting estimate online?

Yes. You send it as a link by text or email. Your customer opens the estimate on their phone, checks each room and the total, and signs it there. They don't need an app or an account.

Can I show standard and premium paint side by side?

This maker builds one option per estimate. To show paint grades side by side, download the painting estimate template, which has room for options.
